Nothobranchius

Nothobranchius are from Eastern Africa. They are annual killifish and do best with an egg dry period (typically of 100 days). Males usually are predominante in hatched offspring, believed to overcome the impact of predation of the more colorful males in the wild habitat. To prevent odinium (velvet) in the aquarium most do best with a tablespoon of salt per five gallons of water. In some species males can be very agressive toward other males of the same species as well as females. These species do best on live foods and worms are the food of choice although brine shrimp are readily taken. Dry food is not usually accepted
